A Little About Borneo

Straddling the equator and dominated by luxuriant rainforests, Borneo is the third largest island in the world, its territory apportioned unevenly between the countries of Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei. A tropical paradise with unspoilt, endless white sandy beaches, the oldest and most bio-diverse rainforest on Earth, and an abundance of natural wonders.

The two states of Sarawak and Sabah make up the Malaysian part of the island of Borneo, and are separated from West Malaysia by the South China Sea. Sarawak stretches some 800km along the northwest coasts and directly adjoins the State of Sabah to the north-east, where the sultanate of Brunei forms a double enclave. Inland, the State borders with Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Borneo Climates

Borneo is a tropical rainforest. The climate remains relatively consistent, averaging at 27-32C yearly. However, the humidity is often very high, averaging at around 80% for the year. It is worth noting that Borneo is a rainforest island, and as such receives a lot of rain and very wet weather that is often happen as predict. In certain parts, Borneo can receive upwards of 4,000mm of rainfall every year. Traditionally, most tourism numbers are between May and September, when the rainfall is usually lightest, though this is unpredictable. Higher rainfall is between November and March. If you are planning on visiting Borneo for sightseeing tour, make sure you pack accordingly, as you can literally experience heavy rainfall one after minute, and then bright sun and blue skies the next! However, the diving sites, jungle lodges, conservation sites and national parks are just as appealing and beautiful in the rain, which usually attracts many animals and species out to cool down from the heat and makes for fantastic viewing.
